Summer Break

The beginning of the Summer Term marked our 31st Anniversary, and we finished the term with a highly successful ABRSM exam session and two concerts.

We introduced a small scale concert for our youngest musicians, taking place during and involving our very popular Music Makers classes. The performance also included solos and duets from musicians in year 2 and 3. It was the first time some of these young musicians had played in front of an audience, and that audience could not have been more appreciative!

A larger scale concert took place later that (very hot!) afternoon, involving our Junior & Senior String Ensembles. Honourable mentions to our Guitar and Wind Ensembles for memorable performances, and commendations to students, teachers and audience.

Our ABRSM session concluded on Tuesday 15th July, and once again provided us with 100% pass rate, and a high proportion of merits and distinctions.

Timetabling is well underway for the autumn – many thanks to all the parents who have sent us information about their schedules. We are waiting for confirmation from the last few of our Music Makers going into Year 2 in September to choose their instruments. Guitar, drums and voice timetables are almost completely full, and there is limited availability for violin and piano. All bookings are supplied of a first come, first served basis!

Our booking application form can been found below –   https://thelatymersaturdaymusiccentre.co.uk/apply/

Summer Concerts

Here at The Latymer Saturday Music Centre, we’re busy preparing for summer performances as a way of celebrating the hard work done by students and teachers during the 2024-25 academic year. Our main concert takes places on the afternoon of Saturday 12th July, and features an array of soloists plus Junior and Senior String Ensembles, Wind Ensemble & Guitar Ensemble!

Our youngest performers, the Music Makers, get their own performance earlier in the day, with some of our Year 2 students giving their first ever instrumental performance in front of their parent/carers.

All students who study an instrument with us are eligible for membership of an ensemble absolutely free of charge!

Looking ahead

While many are enjoying the glorious sunshine, we at TLSMC are already planning for the autumn 2025 season!

Thank you to our parents who have replied to our message about requests for autumn lesson timings, to ensure that you can make the most of your Saturdays.

For prospective students, as well as students taking up additional instruments, we have vacancies in several, including harp, flute, bassoon, oboe and brass, as well as perennial favourites such as piano and drums.

Booking in advance is definitely recommended – our application form is below

An amazing performance from our young soloists

We were lucky enough to attend Enfield Chamber Orchestra’s performance of Mozart’s Flute and Harp Concerto on Saturday, featuring Maisy – one of our current pupils – and Khyati – one of our former pupils.

Both soloists are members of Enfield Youth Symphony Orchestra, which enjoys strong links with Enfield Chamber Orchestra.

It was hard to believe that the soloists are only 17 and 18, such was their maturity and poise.  Congratulations to both of you – we’re all very proud!

It’s nearly the end of term..

We had our second concert of the term on Saturday, which included the Guitar Ensemble as well as the Recorder Ensemble and several soloists.  It was lovely for the parents to have an opportunity to hear the progress the students have made – all that practice really is worth it!  One more Saturday of lessons, and then we are all going to have a well-deserved break.
