Fantastic start to the term

What a great day we had yesterday! As well as our new teachers, we welcomed many new pupils too. Everyone seems happy with their timetable, and we’re looking forward to sharing the joy of music making for the forthcoming term. We’re so lucky that we get to do what we love.

Welcome to Daria

We have another new teacher to add to our thriving music centre – we are delighted to welcome Daria Phillips to the team.

Daria began lessons on the mini-bassoon at the age of 7 as part of a council run project. She progressed through the various music ensembles within her borough before joining the music course at Junior Guildhall where she held the Bassoon Scholarship and, in her final year, received the Woodwind Prize. Daria has been invited to play with Chineke! Orchestra, an initiative that aims to promote diversity in classical music-making, on numerous concert tours and recordings. She was a Junior Artist with the London Philharmonic Orchestra (2016-17) mentored by the principal bassoonist, Jonathan Davies. Daria studied in The Hague with Gretha Tuls and at Guildhall School of Music & Drama where she won the Bassoon Prize. Daria enjoys encouraging young musicians to explore the art form and regularly works as a teacher and music mentor with various organisations.

Our bassoon pupils are looking forward to meeting Daria on Saturday!

Singing lessons

We now have two singing teachers, and are looking forward to hearing some of the pupils at our next concerts. If you would like singing lessons, please get in touch on 07948 167396 or send us an email on info@thelatymersaturdaymusiccentre.co.uk.

Group Of School Children Singing In Choir Together

Welcome to Eleanor Kemp

We have another new member of staff starting with us next week!

Scottish singer Eleanor Kemp first studied Music with French at Glasgow University before moving to London to study at Trinity Laban where she completed her masters in vocal performance. She is a freelance opera singer with credits including Cherubino (The Marriage of Figaro), Nursing Sister, Mistress of the Novices and the Abbess (Suor Angelica), Sheperdess (Venus and Adonis) and Nada (Svadba). Eleanor also performs song and opera recitals regularly with her duo partner.

Eleanor is a passionate teacher working with students on singing, theory and languages. She is also experienced in creating group music experiences through her work with Colourstrings and Paragon. As an experienced choral singer, Eleanor now also enjoys leading choirs and sharing the gift of ensemble singing. She loves helping students achieve their musical goals, gain confidence and open new doors in their development through music. She sees students at Trinity Laban as well as privately, and is delighted to start working at the Latymer Saturday Music Centre.

Welcome Eleanor!

Happy Bank Holiday!

Not too long now before we start lessons again.  Everybody should have had their timetable by now – if you haven’t received yours, or if you have any queries, please contact us straight away.  There are still  vacancies for lessons on some instruments and also in our Early Ears and Music Makers classes.  In the meantime, have a fabulous Bank Holiday.

Good luck to all of those off to university

We are always delighted to hear of the next destinations for our students, and we have heard today that one of our students is off to study Film and Television Production – congratulations!  He has been with us since the age of 4, and has Grade 8 Recorder as well as Grade 6 Drum Kit.  We know he will  continue to be successful in everything he does.
